On 1st November 2018, to celebrate the 62nd birth anniversary of Kerala and with the aim to promote Malayalam literature and book reading among the younger generation, the Lions Club International organised a literary festival at Kollam, named ‘Amma Malayalam’. The programme organised at the Kollam Public Library Hall was attended by many prominent personalities from the field of arts, culture and literature. The function witnessed a very rare event, a world record – Simultaneous release of 584 books. All the 584 titles are recently printed Malayalam books. The Chief coordinator of this mega event was KMPA’s Immediate Past President Mr. S. Saji. As printers are the bridge between the writer and the reader, KMPA was invited to the programme by the Lions Club. KMPA President R. Gopakumar, Coordinator O. Venugopal, Gen. Secretary Biju Jose, former Secretary Rajesh G. and former Treasurer Yeldho K. George attended the programme on the Association’s behalf. Speaking at the function O. Venugopal highlighted the importance of the printing fraternity in the development of literature around the world. R. Gopakumar spoke to the print media and television channels about the importance of such events in improving book reading habits. It was an honour for KMPA to be invited to the function attended by luminaries of the literary world. The astounding feat of simultaneously releasing 584 books at a single programme earned Mr. Saji a place in the Incredible Book of Records. He was honoured by KMPA for this rare achievement.
